Killeen ISD is proud to announce that Officer Cary Spate of the KISD Police Department has been named a 2025 Warrior Award recipient by the Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA), the state’s largest law enforcement association.

The Warrior Award honors officers whose extraordinary courage and quick action save lives, even in the face of personal danger. Spate was recognized alongside Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Brody Telfer for stopping a vehicle-borne attack targeting holiday shoppers at the Killeen Mall in 2024, preventing what could have been a devastating tragedy.

“Officer Spate represents what we look for in all our officers – professionalism, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to keeping students, staff and families safe,” said KISD PD Chief Erik Hydorn. “I am proud of the way she serves our school community every day, and how she takes that passion a step further to help safeguard the broader community as well.”

Officer Spate has served with KISD PD for 3 years. The award was presented in July during TMPA’s 75th Anniversary Conference in Houston.
